Applied Epi Scholarships 2025 in USA Inviting Applications

Applied Epi has announced the opening of applications for its Applied Epi Scholarships for the class of 2025, designed to support public health and epidemiology professionals in low- and middle-income countries. This initiative empowers government agencies and operations-oriented NGOs by offering training and resources to transition to or expand their use of R for data analysis, ultimately driving impactful public health improvements.

Scholarship Benefits

The Applied Epi Scholarships offer two tiers of financial support:

  • Full Scholarships: Covers all costs for eligible teams.
  • Partial Scholarships: Offers services at a discounted rate, allowing more teams to benefit.

Scholarship recipients gain access to:

  1. Introduction to R for Applied Epidemiology Course: Ten synchronous sessions spread across five weeks.
  2. Support Desk Services: One-on-one video call assistance for transitioning workflows to R.
  3. Custom Training Options: Larger teams (10 or more members) may arrange private courses with a tailored schedule.

This comprehensive package enables teams to enhance their data analysis capabilities and foster collaborative learning.

Degree Levels and Eligibility

The scholarships cater to teams working in public health and epidemiology. Eligibility requirements include:

  1. The applicant team (1–20 members) must belong to a government agency or operations-oriented NGO.
  2. The team must operate in a low- or middle-income country and engage in applied, data-oriented public health work.
  3. Applications must have the support of their organization’s senior leadership.
  4. Teams of one person are considered if they represent a small entity.

For U.S.-based professionals working in low-resource jurisdictions, a separate CDC-sponsored scholarship is available.

Application Process

Applications will be accepted here (https://appliedepi.org/training/scholarships-ae.html) from January 20 to February 10, 2025. Interested teams should prepare the following information:

  • Plans for transitioning to R.
  • Team members’ educational backgrounds, computer literacy, data management and analysis experience, and intended use of R.
  • Efforts made to secure alternative funding sources.

Eligible teams advancing to the next stage will participate in a 45-minute interview in mid-to-late February 2025. Final results will be announced by early March, 2025.
