Which Estonia Scholarship Route Should You Prepare For?
University students should prepare for either the summer-school scholarship or the degree and exchange-study scholarship.
For summer schools, Bachelor’s, Master’s and PhD students studying at a university outside Estonia may apply after completing at least one academic year. Applicants must first select an eligible course and obtain confirmation from the Estonian university organizing it.
For degree and exchange studies, Master’s and PhD programmes are currently supported across all fields. Bachelor’s-level funding is much narrower and is limited to fields connected with Estonian language and culture.
The latest published degree-scholarship rates are €350 per month for eligible Bachelor’s and Master’s students and €660 per month for doctoral students. The Education and Youth Board expressly states that other costs are not covered, so applicants should arrange additional funding for tuition, travel, insurance and living expenses exceeding the allowance.
Can Researchers and Academic Staff Apply?
Yes, but this route is for people already holding academic positions at universities outside Estonia.
Professors, lecturers, teachers, research fellows and other eligible academic employees may seek funding for research, teaching or institutional collaboration in Estonia. They must obtain a hosting letter from an Estonian higher education institution.
The current grant is €45 per day for visits lasting one to nine days or €660 per month for stays of ten days to ten months. PhD candidates cannot use this academic-staff route merely because they conduct research, and the programme does not offer postdoctoral fellowships.
