The 2025 Huayu Enrichment Scholarship (HES) Program is open for applications from February 1 to March 31, 2025. This program is an excellent opportunity for international students to immerse themselves in Chinese language and culture while studying in Taiwan.
About the Scholarship
The Huayu Enrichment Scholarship, sponsored by the Ministry of Education of the Republic of China (Taiwan), aims to promote Mandarin learning among international students from selected countries. The program excludes applicants from mainland China, Hong Kong, and Macao.
Scholarship Benefits
- Monthly Stipend: NT$25,000 (approximately USD 800) to cover tuition, books, rent, and living expenses.
- Duration Options: Students can apply for courses lasting 3, 6, 9, or 12 months. The courses must be taken between September 1, 2025, and August 31, 2026.
Note: Scholarship recipients must prepare an additional fund of no less than USD 3,000 to cover initial expenses, such as tuition prepayments and housing costs.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must:
- Be citizens of Hungary, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, or Kosovo.
- Be at least 18 years old.
- Have an outstanding academic record.
- Demonstrate good moral character.
Ineligibility:
Applicants cannot apply if they:
- Are overseas Chinese students or citizens of the R.O.C. (Taiwan).
- Are already studying at a Mandarin Language Center or pursuing a degree in Taiwan.
- Have previously received the Huayu Enrichment Scholarship or Taiwan Scholarship.
- Will be exchange students in Taiwan during the scholarship period.
- Are receiving financial aid from the R.O.C. government or other Taiwanese institutions.

Selection Process
- Applications will be evaluated based on academic achievements, motivation, and potential for success.
- Results will be announced by May 2025.
- Selected candidates must submit their MLC admission letter by June 30, 2025, to confirm their scholarship.
