Dublin City University’s Business School, alongside the family and friends of the late John Thompson, is proud to announce the opening of applications for the John Thompson Scholarship. This prestigious award covers the full tuition fees for one student enrolled in the MSc in Digital Marketing program.

About the Scholarship

The John Thompson Scholarship was established in 2008 to commemorate John Thompson, a towering figure in Irish media with nearly three decades of influence. As a key executive, John contributed to the launch and success of major publications such as U Magazine, The Sunday World, and The Irish Farmers Journal. His leadership roles included serving as the Chief Executive of Associated Newspapers Ireland and Managing Director at Independent Star Limited.

John’s vision underscored the synergy between journalism and marketing, particularly in how both fields can drive consumer engagement and commercial triumph. This scholarship reflects his vision by aiming to bridge digital marketing with online journalism. It encourages students from business, journalism, and broader educational backgrounds to explore digital marketing, while appreciating the interplay with media and journalism.
