Merit Scholarship 2024 by Mexico Government: A Guide for International Students

The Government of Mexico, through the Mexican Agency for International Development Cooperation (AMEXCID), is offering the Merit Scholarship 2024 for international students. This scholarship aims to support students interested in pursuing a master’s degree, doctorate, graduate or postdoctoral research, or participating in undergraduate or graduate-level academic mobility programs in Mexico.

The Merit Scholarship 2024 provides numerous benefits for international students, including:

Monthly Stipend:

    • Master’s scholarships, undergraduate and master’s level mobility, and master’s level research: Four times the monthly value of the Federal Economic Measurement Unit (UMA), currently $13,202.12 MXN.
    • Doctoral scholarships and research stays at the doctoral and postdoctoral levels: Five times the monthly value of the UMA, currently MXN$16,502.65.
  • Registration and Tuition Fees: Covered at participating Mexican higher education institutions.
  • Health Insurance: Provided by the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) starting from the seventh month of the scholarship.
  • Visa and Transportation: Cost of issuing the Mexican resident visa, international airfare upon completion of the academic program, and national transportation for students pursuing studies outside the Metropolitan Area of Mexico City.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for the Merit Scholarship 2024, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Academic Excellence: A minimum average mark of 85%.
  • For Undergraduate and Graduate Level Mobilities:
    • Acceptance letter from the receiving Mexican University (issued within 60 days) or a letter of introduction from the Mexican University (for candidates residing in Mexico).
    • Letter from the applicant’s institution agreeing to give academic credit for courses taken in Mexico.
    • If studies are in a language other than Spanish, a copy of the communication from the receiving Institution committing to provide tutoring in the specified language.
    • If already pursuing a degree in Mexico, a copy of the academic transcript from the Mexican institution.
  • For Master’s Degree and Doctorate:
    • Acceptance letter from the receiving Mexican University (issued within 60 days) or a letter of introduction from the Mexican University (for candidates residing in Mexico).
    • A copy of the most recent degree and the last study certificate issued by the home institution.
    • If already pursuing a degree in Mexico, a copy of the academic record from the Mexican institution.
    • If studies are in a language other than Spanish, a copy of the communication from the receiving Institution committing to provide tutoring in the specified language.
  • For Research Stays at Graduate Level:
    • A copy of the most recent degree (Master’s or doctorate).
    • An official copy of the last study certificate issued by the home institution.
    • Acceptance letter indicating that tutoring will be provided, specifying the advisor and research details.
    • If the research stay is in a language other than Spanish, a copy of the communication from the receiving institution committing to provide tutoring in the specified language.

Application Process
