A Variety of School Leaver Scholarships Available

The University of Auckland provides several hundred scholarships annually to new undergraduate students. These scholarships are funded both centrally by the University and by individual faculties and generous donors. Here are some of the key scholarships you can apply for:

  1. University of Auckland Top Achiever Scholarship: Rewards exceptional academic performance combined with achievements in sports, arts, culture, or leadership.
  2. University of Auckland Māori Academic Excellence Scholarship: Recognises outstanding academic success from Māori students engaged in Te Ao Māori, their community, the arts, or who have played leadership roles in sports or cultural contexts.
  3. University of Auckland Pacific Academic Excellence Scholarship: Recognises Pacific heritage students with excellent academic records and active community, cultural, or other activities participation.
  4. University of Auckland Academic Potential Scholarship – School Leavers: Supports students demonstrating academic achievement while considering various factors impacting their ability to participate fully at university.
  5. University of Auckland Waka Moana Scholarship: Aims to recognise Māori students with strong engagement in Te Ao Māori, their community, the arts, or who have demonstrated exceptional leadership in sports or cultural contexts, in addition to academic ability.
  6. University of Auckland Vaka Moana Scholarship: Recognises indigenous Pacific students engaged with their school and community, the arts, or who have demonstrated exceptional leadership in sports or cultural contexts, alongside academic ability.

Important Dates and Application Timeline

  • 29 May 2024: Online applications open.
  • Early June 2024: Start preparing your application, focusing on leadership experience, academic, sports, or arts achievements, and community recognition.
  • 25 June 2024: Join the online Information Evening.
  • July/Early August 2024: Decide on and confirm your endorser.
  • Mid-August 2024: Follow up with your endorser and aim to submit your application at least one week before the closing date.
  • 21 August 2024: Applications close at 11.59pm.
  • Late August: Online applications for specific subject scholarships open.
  • September: Applications reviewed by a Selection Committee.
  • Early October: Expect to receive the outcome of your application.
  • 10 October: Subject-specific scholarship applications close.
  • January: Scholarship eligibility confirmed with the release of NCEA, CIE, IB results.
  • February: Scholarship payments commence.

Getting Started

Before applying for a scholarship, you need to apply for admission to at least one programme at the University of Auckland (https://www.auckland.ac.nz/en/study/applications-and-admissions/apply-now.html). Only one form is required to be considered for multiple scholarships, with specific variations based on your selections.
