The University of Richmond is now accepting undergraduate applications for 2027 entry, and international students who submit their complete admission application by December 1, 2026, will automatically be considered for the Richmond Scholars Program. No separate scholarship application is required.

This is the university’s most prestigious merit award. It covers full tuition, university housing and food, making it one of the strongest undergraduate scholarships currently available in the United States.

However, applicants should understand its funding limits. Flights, visa costs, health insurance, books and personal expenses are not expressly included in the scholarship’s core financial package.

Can International Students Apply for Richmond Scholars in 2027?

Yes, international students applying as first-year undergraduates can be considered for the Richmond Scholars Program.

This opportunity is not restricted to US citizens. You must be completing secondary school—or hold an accepted equivalent qualification—and apply for admission to an undergraduate degree at the University of Richmond.

The scholarship is not designed for master’s, PhD or transfer applicants. If you have already completed a bachelor’s degree and want to pursue postgraduate study, this is not the correct scholarship for you.

What Does the Richmond Scholars Award Cover?

The Richmond Scholars award covers full undergraduate tuition, university housing and food for selected students.

Recipients may receive:

International applicants should not confuse this policy with the English-language requirement. SAT and ACT scores may be optional, while proof of English proficiency may still be required.

Applicants whose native language is not English may need to submit an approved IELTS, TOEFL or Duolingo English Test result unless they meet one of the university’s published waiver conditions.

How to Apply for the Richmond Scholars Program?

You do not submit a separate Richmond Scholars application because your undergraduate admission application automatically serves as your scholarship application.

1. Choose an eligible undergraduate programme at the University of Richmond.
2. Create your application through the Common Application or the Coalition Application through Scoir.
3. Complete the University of Richmond questions and prepare the required supplemental response.
4. Add your academic history, achievements, leadership activities and community involvement.
5. Arrange for your transcript, school report, recommendation and other required credentials to be submitted.
6. Provide English-proficiency evidence if the university requires it from you.
7. Submit your complete admission application by December 1, 2026.
8. Use the Spider Portal credentials issued after submission to check whether any document remains missing.

Shortlisted applicants may be invited to an interview with a faculty selection committee. Reaching the interview stage does not guarantee admission or receipt of the scholarship.

Should You Apply Through Early Action or Regular Decision?

You may use an available first-year Richmond scholars admission plan, but your complete application must reach the university by December 1 to qualify for Richmond Scholars consideration.

Early Action may suit applicants who want a non-binding route and an earlier admission decision. Early Decision is binding and should be selected only if the University of Richmond is unquestionably your first-choice university.

Regular Decision remains possible, but you must submit by the earlier December 1 scholarship deadline instead of waiting for the university’s January admission deadline.
