About MDPU

The MDPU is responsible for designing and delivering core diplomacy training (CDT) at the United Nations Headquarters and other significant venues worldwide. The programme benefits approximately 2,500 diplomats annually through orientation briefings and intensive skills development workshops.

In addition to CDT, MDPU collaborates with governments, universities, and international organizations to develop and deliver training at country and regional levels. Activities include e-learning courses, special projects, and advisory services related to the curriculum development of diplomatic academies.

Traineeship Responsibilities

As a trainee, you will work under the supervision of the Senior Programme Specialist of UNITAR’s MDPU. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Coordinating training programmes, including logistics and preparation of training materials.
  • Assisting in the development of participatory training activities.
  • Conducting research and drafting project proposals.
  • Adapting training materials to meet academic standards and certification criteria.
  • Liaising with partner organizations and beneficiaries.
  • Preparing programme statistics and evaluation reports.
  • Supporting the implementation of e-learning courses, workshops, and webinars.
  • Assisting with outreach and communication strategies.
  • Supporting procurement processes.

Minimum Requirements

  • Education: Enrolled in or a recent graduate of an undergraduate/graduate/postgraduate degree in international relations, education, history, law, political science, languages, or a related field. Recent graduates must commence the traineeship within two years of graduation.
  • Languages: High proficiency in both oral and written English.
  • Skills: Demonstrated interest in training methodologies, e-learning, and participatory training methodologies. Strong analytical, research, administrative, and organizational skills. Proficiency in computer skills (e-learning tools, word processing, Excel, PowerPoint, internet research). High level of responsibility, commitment, and initiative.

Dates and Duration

  • Start Date: Third week of June 2024 (exact date to be agreed upon with the selected candidate).
  • Duration: Four months, full-time (five days a week).
