400,000 international students Studying in Germany

According to the recent survey, the number of officially enrolled international students has increased to almost 393,579 as of the statistics of the Winter semester 2018/19.

Germany is becoming one of the important destinations of study for international students as it is attracting a large number of students continuously from all over the world. Moreover, Germany is among the top five countries which are popular for attracting students around the globe.

One of the main reasons for the boost in international student enrolment in German universities is that they don’t charge tuition fees from students since 2014 and this trend is still alive. Furthermore, according to the latest statistics from national statistics agency in Germany, there are 393,579 international students studying in German universities which accounts for a total of 14% of all the students enrolled in German universities.

Most students such as 257,089 are the first-year students ( Hoschule 1 Semester) and 122,625 are studying in colleges (Fachschule) accounting to 122,625 of the total number of international students. Furthermore, it has been observed that there are more male students accounting to 53% (206,961) of total students as compared to 47% (186618) female students.

If we look at the most attractive courses then engineering stands on number one. According to a survey, the German engineering schools enrolled around 32,373 number of international students. Furthermore, the male students’ enrollment was still very high as compared to females. Additionally, the stats show there an increase in the number of students from 8,965 to 9,140 between two consecutive winter semesters of 2017.2018 and 2018/2019.

Next to engineering come the business, law and social sciences schools that enrolled the great number of students. Approximately there are 26,997 non-German students studying in these creative schools. As compared to the engineering, these subjects have more female enrollment than male students confirming by the statistics of 16,008 non-German females studying in business, law or social sciences degrees.

Other fields like humanities, natural sciences or mathematics have also attracted a large number of students around the globe. according to the stats since the winter semester of 2018/2019, there are 11,688 students studying in the degree of humanities and 8,622 in natural sciences and mathematics.

Most of the international first-year students i.e 59,723 are enrolled in the universities while the rest of the students are involved in the vocational training that accounts for 28,259 number of people.

The northern Rhine-Westphalia and Bavaria have the record of the highest number of international students since the winter semester of 2018/2019. It has been observed that 12,882 students studied in Northern Rhine-Westphalia while Bavarian Universities had 10,472 number of total students.

German universities are the top universities in the world and also have global rankings. Additionally, there are no or low tuition fees for international students which attracts people all around the globe. Furthermore, it is very affordable to live in Germany as compared to other European countries which make it worth living.
