I wrote this article to provide an overview of skills shortage jobs in Portugal for foreigners as well as to provide you some useful insights about Portuguese labor market. As per the report published by European CEDEFOP a large portion of skill shortage job occupations belong to seasonal work/business categories such as fisheries, forestry, tourism sector, and agriculture, whereas, there are some standard occupations which are also in high demand such as nannies, cleaners, construction workers, programmers, healthcare staff, aerospace and IT staff.

With that i think this might also be worth mentioning that there are some low demand surplus job occupations as well in Portugal for which international recruitment is discouraged in Portugal and those are mining workers, leather industry staff, textile staff, tool makers, trades workers, and blacksmith workers.

Can You Get a Job in Portugal as foreigner?

You can apply for high demand skill shortage jobs available in Portugal which i explained in above section but for that i will further clarify that if you belong from any EEA European Economic Area country, or European Union (EU) region then you can easily find jobs in Portugal but if you belong from any other countries then you are allowed to look for employment opportunities in Portugal online and upon receiving an appointment letter you will then be required to apply for Portugal work VISA or job seekers visa.

I also advise you to prepare your resume, CV, cover letter as per job specifications and other also prepare supporting documents such as work experience letters, recommendations, degrees and transcripts for submitting your job applications in Portugal.

Applying or Portuguese Work VISA

Now your last step after getting a job offer from Portugal would be to apply for a Portugal work visa and that you can do by submitting an application for work visa at any Portuguese embassy nearby you with all required documents and application fees of €90.

Upon receiving your temporary visa you will be allowed to enter Portugal for work purpose but later on you will be required to convert your temporary visa into Portuguese residence permit and for that you will be charged around €83.
