To qualify for the 2026 Chinese Government Scholarship – High Level Postgraduate Program at Zhongnan University of Economics and Law (ZUEL), applicants must first meet the basic nationality and health conditions set by the Ministry of Education of China. Each candidate must be a citizen of a country other than the People’s Republic of China and be in good physical and mental health. In addition, applicants are not allowed to be simultaneous recipients of any other scholarship at the time of application, ensuring that the Chinese Government Scholarship remains their primary source of financial support.
Academic background and age limits are clearly defined according to the level of study. Applicants for master’s programs must hold a bachelor’s degree or an equivalent qualification in a relevant field and are generally expected to be no older than 35 years at the time of application. Those applying for doctoral programs must hold a master’s degree or an equivalent qualification in a related discipline and should generally be no older than 40 years. The scholarship is exclusively designed for graduate-level studies and supports master’s students for a period of two to three academic years and doctoral students for up to four academic years. Beyond these formal thresholds, candidates must also meet the specific academic standards, professional prerequisites, and other ability requirements set by the individual schools and departments within ZUEL.
Language proficiency is another essential part of eligibility and depends on the teaching language of the chosen program. Applicants intending to study in Chinese-taught programs are required to provide a valid HSK Level 5 certificate or above, demonstrating sufficient command of Chinese to follow academic coursework and research activities. Those applying for English-taught programs must submit proof of English proficiency, typically through a TOEFL score of at least 80, an IELTS score of at least 6.0, or an official certificate confirming that their previous degree program was taught in English. These language requirements are strictly enforced to ensure that admitted students can effectively participate in their chosen programs and complete their studies within the funded duration.
