The funding competition is hosted by the School of Arts and Humanities and is available for candidates pursuing a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD), Professional Doctorate, Master of Arts (MA) by Research, or Master of Science (MSc) by Research programme.

Who Can Apply?

The scholarship competition is currently open exclusively to home applicants. To be considered, applicants must:

  • Hold an upper-class undergraduate degree or higher in a relevant subject area.
  • Be completing a qualifying degree and expected to achieve the required classification during the 2026 summer examination period.
  • Meet the academic entry requirements for the chosen research programme.
  • Demonstrate a strong research proposal aligned with the School of Arts and Humanities.

Research Areas

Applicants should identify a suitable research area within the School of Arts and Humanities and explain why the University of Huddersfield is the appropriate institution for their proposed project.

Candidates are expected to present a clear and original research idea that demonstrates academic significance and feasibility.

Application Submission Last Date

Applicants interested in the University of Huddersfield Arts and Humanities Research Scholarships for the October 2026 intake must submit their complete scholarship application package by 21 June 2026. This includes the statement of interest, research proposal, CV, academic documents, proof of eligibility, and any other required supporting materials. Following the initial assessment process, shortlisted candidates will be informed of their selection status by 29 June 2026.

While applicants may submit their main application before references arrive, all referee reports must be received directly from referees by 1 July 2026. Selected candidates will then be invited to participate in an online interview conducted via Microsoft Teams during the week commencing 6 July 2026. After the interview stage, the University’s School of Arts and Humanities will identify the strongest candidates and issue scholarship offers, with successful awardees commencing their fully funded research degrees in October 2026.
