University of Rennes Eiffel Scholarship 2027 Opens for Master’s and PhD Applicants

The University of Rennes Eiffel Scholarship 2027 call is open in France for international applicants pursuing eligible master’s and PhD programmes. If your next step involves research, advanced technical study or a career in public policy or business, this is an opportunity to connect that ambition with French government support.

The France Excellence Eiffel Scholarship Programme helps French institutions recruit outstanding international students. Rennes considers candidates in six fields spanning science, engineering, health, law, politics, economics and management. You apply to Rennes first; the university must support your candidature before it reaches Campus France for national selection.

That nomination stage matters. Which Rennes course fits your qualifications, and what evidence will persuade the university to support you? Master’s applicants use an online pre-application, while PhD candidates need a research project and a willing Rennes supervisor.

The guide below explains those routes, the funding distinction and the documents worth preparing first. For the wider nomination process, read our France Eiffel Scholarship 2027 eligibility and nomination guide.

Your first target: a Rennes nomination
Status: Open for the 2027 call.
Study routes: Eligible master’s, engineering and doctoral study.
Who qualifies: Outstanding foreign nationals; French dual nationals are excluded.
Funding: Monthly allowance and services; tuition exemptions follow separate rules.
Language: Course requirements apply; no universal IELTS waiver is announced.
Timing: University pre-application deadline applies; see the final section.
Official information checked: 20 October 2026.

01 Which Rennes courses fit your plans?

Your chosen programme must fit Rennes’ Eiffel offer, rather than simply carry a related subject name. The six fields are engineering sciences; ecological transition; mathematics and digital sciences; biology and health; law and political science; and economics and management.

Rennes’ published 2027–2028 course list includes Cloud and Network Infrastructures, Data and Business Intelligence, fundamental mathematics, photonics, nanosciences, sustainable transport and logistics, finance, international human resources, European law and political science. Some options admit at Master 1, others at Master 2, so the entry year is part of your shortlist. If you are comparing hosts before choosing your nominating institution, use our list of French universities accepting Eiffel Scholarship 2027 applications, with their deadlines.

For non-European applicants, Rennes requires the selected course to be open on Études en France. My recommendation is to choose the exact programme and entry year before writing your career plan: explaining that match gives your application a clearer purpose than a general wish to study in France.

02 Who can Rennes nominate for Eiffel?

Eiffel at Rennes is a competitive academic-excellence route with nationality, age and study-location restrictions. The university considers results and class ranking, including the size and context of your cohort.

  • Master’s: maximum age 29, born after 31 March 1997; applicants already studying in France are ineligible.
  • PhD: maximum age 35, born after 31 March 1991; candidates studying abroad receive priority.
  • Funding compatibility: an existing French government scholarship excludes eligibility, even if it covers only social-security contributions. Eiffel cannot overlap with Erasmus+ or AUF scholarships.
  • Excluded formats: continuing education, apprenticeships and professionalisation programmes.

Rennes also states that candidates previously submitted to Campus France are ineligible. If that describes your history, seek a Rennes eligibility decision before investing in another dossier.

03 What does Eiffel pay for?

Eiffel combines a monthly living allowance with travel, insurance and other services. Campus France’s programme overview publishes €1,200 monthly for master’s students and €2,100 for doctoral students, alongside international and domestic transport, accommodation-search assistance and cultural activities.

There is a published discrepancy for PhD funding: Campus France’s implementation page lists €2,000 monthly. Obtain written confirmation of the applicable doctoral rate before finalising your budget.

Eiffel itself does not pay tuition. Separately, French government scholarship holders qualify for tuition-charge exemptions for national master’s and doctoral diplomas, and accredited engineering degrees, at qualifying public institutions. That distinction matters when comparing a national degree with another type of qualification. Accommodation-search assistance should also not be budgeted as free housing.

04 How to submit your Rennes pre-application

Submit a Rennes Eiffel pre-application through the route for your degree level. The university’s submission is the nomination stage; it does not guarantee an Eiffel award or replace all programme-admission formalities.

  1. Select your course. Start with the official Rennes Eiffel call, which links the eligible course list and doctoral form. Match the programme, entry year and teaching language to your academic preparation.
  2. Prepare the academic dossier. Gather your passport or ID, French- or English-language CV, diplomas, ranking evidence, transcripts for the last three years and current enrolment certificate where applicable. Write a one- to two-page career plan connecting previous study, France and your intended profession; obtain an external recommendation. Our Eiffel France Scholarship document checklist can help you organise these files, while Rennes’ own requirements determine what you must submit.
  3. For master’s study, apply online. Complete the Rennes Mobility Online Eiffel form, register and upload the required PDFs, including your requested course description and schedule. Although the portal uses exchange-application wording, it identifies the Eiffel programme.
  4. For doctoral study, secure the research evidence first. Add a one- to five-page thesis proposal/progress statement, a Rennes supervisor’s written agreement and explicit Eiffel support, an external expert’s assessment and CV, a thesis funding plan and any applicable language certificate. Existing doctoral candidates also need the relevant signed joint-supervision documentation; Rennes exempts first-year applicants requesting 36 months from that requirement.
  5. Email the PhD dossier. Send the completed doctoral pre-application and PDFs to [email protected]. The call specifies: EIFFEL DOCTORAT 2027 – LAST NAME – FIRST NAME – Université de Rennes. I would prioritise the supervisor and external expert early, because these documents depend on other people’s review.
  6. Follow the nomination and admission stages. Retain your submission confirmation and respond to Rennes’ follow-up. Use the Campus France Eiffel programme guidance for national rules. Rennes lists no Eiffel pre-application fee; separate admissions or Études en France procedures may carry their own charges.

05 Questions before you submit

Before submitting, resolve these distinctions between university admission and an Eiffel nomination.

Can two universities nominate me for Eiffel?

No. Rennes states that a candidate cannot be represented by more than one institution. Coordinate your choice before institutions send nominations; ordinary university applications and formal Eiffel nominations are different stages.

Does an Études en France application count as my Rennes Eiffel application?

No. Rennes publishes a dedicated Eiffel pre-application route, separate from the requirement that an eligible course appear on Études en France. Complete the scholarship route for your degree and any admission procedure applicable to your programme.

Does completing the English application form waive language tests?

No. The form’s language does not establish a course’s teaching language or admission standard. Rennes requests French and English proficiency information, while the doctoral checklist includes language evidence where applicable; prepare the proof required by your chosen course.

06 Rennes Eiffel 2027 application deadline

The last date to apply for the France Excellence Eiffel Scholarship 2027 through the University of Rennes is 6 November 2026. Master’s pre-applications must be submitted online by that date. PhD pre-applications and supporting documents must reach Rennes by 12 noon Paris time on 6 November 2026. This is Rennes’ internal scholarship deadline; a later national nomination deadline or programme-admission calendar does not extend it.
