University of Angers Eiffel Scholarship 2027: Study MS/PhD for Free in France
The University of Angers Eiffel Scholarship 2027 is open for international postgraduate applicants seeking study in France. For master’s candidates, one condition comes before the paperwork: you must be a current or former student of an international partner institution of Angers.
France Excellence Eiffel is a French government scholarship administered by Campus France, supporting outstanding students in priority science, technology, humanities and social-science fields. Angers selects candidates to present for national consideration; university support is therefore essential. Does your background qualify, and should you approach admissions or a thesis supervisor? This guide helps you choose the right route, understand the funding and prepare your submission.
Open for the 2027 campaign; master’s and doctoral procedures differ.
Non-French applicants; master’s candidates need partner-institution study history.
Master’s, engineering degree and PhD; no undergraduate route.
Monthly allowance and support services; registration-fee exemptions have specific conditions.
Master’s: English B2 or French B2–C1, depending on teaching language.
No Eiffel application fee is stated by Angers; separate admission charges are programme-specific.
Use the Angers timetable below; January is the institution’s national submission stage.
26 October 2026. No separate Angers doctoral closing date is published.
01 Who can Angers nominate for Eiffel 2027?
You need excellent academic results and the eligibility profile for your study level. Angers expects candidates to rank at or near the top of their cohort. Its published conditions distinguish the two routes:
- Master’s: current or former student of an Angers international partner institution; born after 31 March 1997; not studying in France during 2026–2027.
- Doctorate: currently a student; born after 31 March 1991. Applicants studying in France can qualify, although candidates abroad receive priority.
- Both levels: foreign nationality, excluding anyone holding French nationality alongside another citizenship. Angers excludes recipients of another French government scholarship, Erasmus+ scholarship or Agence Universitaire de la Francophonie scholarship.
I recommend establishing your institution’s partnership status before drafting a master’s file: academic strength cannot replace that Angers-specific condition. If this route does not fit, our guide to other French universities offering Eiffel 2027 nomination routes can help you compare alternatives.

02 Which Angers programmes and languages can you choose?
Eiffel covers eligible postgraduate study across seven priority fields. These are biology and health; ecological transition; mathematics and digital sciences; engineering; French history, language and civilization; law and political science; and economics and management. Your proposed degree must fit an eligible field and receive Angers’ support.
For applicants seeking English-taught master’s study, Angers specifically lists these options. M1 means the first master’s year; M2 means the second, so your previous qualification must suit the proposed entry point.
| English-taught option | Entry year | Academic focus |
|---|---|---|
| Law & Finance | M2 | Law and finance |
| LUMOMAT | M2 | Light, molecules and matter |
| Nanomed | M1 and M2 | Nanomedicines and pharmaceutical R&D |
Angers requires B2 English for English-taught master’s degrees and B2–C1 French for French-taught master’s degrees. Its Eiffel page gives no universal IELTS score or blanket waiver; use the chosen programme’s accepted language evidence.

03 What does the Eiffel Scholarship pay at Angers?
Campus France currently advertises €1,200 per month for master’s-level recipients and €2,100 for doctoral recipients. The official Eiffel benefits guidance also lists international and domestic transport, insurance, accommodation-search assistance and cultural activities, subject to programme conditions.
For doctoral budgeting, there is an official-source discrepancy: a university-hosted regulations PDF still states €2,000 per month. Obtain confirmation of the applicable amount from Angers before committing to expenses.
Eiffel does not pay training fees. French government scholarship recipients are, however, exempt from registration fees for eligible national diplomas and engineering qualifications at qualifying public institutions. This exemption is separate from a payment of every programme charge. Accommodation-search assistance also does not mean free rent; budget living costs from your allowance.
Funding lasts up to 12 months for M2, 24 months for M1 and 36 months for an engineering degree. Doctoral awards run for 12, 18 or 36 months according to the approved arrangement; the longest route is reserved for eligible first-year newcomers. A longer degree does not automatically produce a longer award.

04 How do you submit an Angers Eiffel application?
Start with Angers: students cannot submit their own Eiffel nomination directly to Campus France. Master’s candidates follow steps 1–2 below; doctoral candidates follow step 3. Both then complete step 4:
- Master’s: establish partnership and course fit. Ask your home institution to confirm its existing partnership with Angers, then find your degree and admissions-office contact in the University of Angers course catalogue. State the programme and entry year you are targeting.
- Obtain the master’s application form. The programme’s admissions office checks your eligibility and sends the form if you qualify. Complete its requested documents and return them through the procedure the office supplies.
- PhD: secure supervisory support. Use the Angers research-unit directory to identify relevant researchers. Your thesis supervisor must submit the doctoral Eiffel application; submissions outside this procedure are not considered.
- Complete the nomination and admission stages. If Angers supports your file, provide the additional Eiffel material it requests. Only one French institution may present your national nomination. Follow any separate admission and enrolment instructions; nomination alone is not a scholarship award or completed enrolment.
I would prepare transcripts, degree evidence, a CV and proof of class ranking now, while using the supplied form as the authoritative document checklist. For any requested statement, our motivation-letter writing guide offers an optional drafting framework; the Angers questions and limits take priority. Doctoral applicants should develop their research plan with the prospective supervisor.

05 Questions to settle before Angers submits your file
Does every Eiffel PhD need an international joint degree?
No. The 36-month route for eligible first-year newcomers does not require joint supervision or a cotutelle, an international joint doctorate. The shorter 12- or 18-month routes use joint supervision or cotutelle arrangements; settle the appropriate route with your supervisor.
Do excellent grades guarantee an Eiffel award?
No. Angers must first support your file, followed by national selection. Present verifiable academic evidence and a coherent study or research purpose; eligibility and nomination do not guarantee funding.
Can I use another university’s Eiffel application form for Angers?
No. Angers has its own procedure: eligible master’s candidates receive the form from the programme’s admissions office, while doctoral submissions come through supervisors. Another institution’s form or email address cannot substitute for that process.
