OsloMet Research Stays Abroad Scholarships 2027: January Deadline for Eligible PhD Candidates

A research visit can give your doctorate something difficult to develop alone: sustained time with researchers whose expertise complements your own. OsloMet’s Research Stays Abroad Scholarship offers eligible doctoral employees a route to support that collaboration in 2027, under its published annual application schedule.

The scheme covered here belongs to OsloMet’s Faculty of Health Sciences in Norway. It supports outward research mobility during an existing doctorate. International researchers should therefore begin with their OsloMet employment and programme status before approaching an overseas host.

What would make the visit valuable to your dissertation, and can you turn that purpose into a realistic budget? Use the guidance below to connect your host choice, research activities and supporting letters into one coherent application.

Can your OsloMet doctorate support an overseas collaboration?
Application basis: Published recurring scheme; the January round covers starts in August–December 2027.
Eligible audience: Faculty of Health Sciences PhD employees enrolled in Health Sciences or Behaviour Analysis.
Funded duration: One to three months.
Funding type: Support for eligible, documented additional expenses.
Official guidance checked: 27 October 2026; the faculty page was last updated in January 2026.

01 Who can use OsloMet’s research mobility funding?

You must be employed by the Faculty of Health Sciences and admitted to its Health Sciences or Behaviour Analysis PhD programme. The published criteria specify institutional affiliation rather than a nationality list; overseas applicants seeking a new Norwegian degree cannot use this mobility application for admission.

Previous recipients of an OsloMet international mobility grant cannot apply. You must use the Research Council of Norway’s scheme if eligible for it, and at least three months of your PhD employment must remain after the planned visit. Other funding is deducted to prevent double funding.

02 Build a research stay around the costs OsloMet covers

The grant supports economical return travel, airport public transport, documented additional living costs up to NOK 25,000 monthly, and documented visa or tuition costs. Expenses must be evidenced in the travel claim after your stay; the monthly ceiling is not an automatic cash award.

There is no extra family support. Course fees, data collection, your teaching activities and courses or conferences outside the host institution are excluded. Any period beyond the funded duration needs separate resources.

My recommendation is to build your budget from actual accommodation and travel estimates. This makes your request easier to assess and shows you where personal funding may still be necessary.

03 How to prepare and submit your OsloMet application

Submit a concise research plan and budget with institutional support, rather than a general scholarship statement. Follow the official Faculty of Health Sciences application instructions in this sequence:

  1. Agree on your host with your supervisor. Explain why that research environment fits your dissertation. Investigate existing exchange agreements, which may help remove host tuition charges.
  2. Arrange the invitation and support letters. Obtain the host invitation plus letters from your supervisor and line manager. Any tuition amount you want funded must appear in the invitation.
  3. Write an application of no more than three pages. Include your name, visit dates, institution and country, reasons for choosing the host, planned activities and dissertation benefit.
  4. Itemise the requested budget. Separate airfare, airport transfers, living costs, tuition, visa and any other costs, then give the total. Explain any departure from the study-progress timeline submitted with your PhD admission application.
  5. Email the application and attachments to [email protected]. The published route is email; no separate application fee is listed.

I would draft the academic purpose before polishing the budget. Name a concrete outcome you intend to pursue, such as developing a manuscript with the host group, so that each proposed activity has a clear reason to be there.

04 Questions to resolve before arranging your visit

Can I apply if I work in another OsloMet faculty?

This Health Sciences call does not govern other faculties or centres. Your local R&D section provides the applicable criteria and submission process; do not assume its dates or funding match this scheme.

Does the mobility call require IELTS?

No separate IELTS score is specified in these grant instructions. That does not establish a language-test exemption for the host institution, whose visiting-researcher arrangements are separate.

Can I use the grant mainly to collect data abroad?

Data-collection costs are expressly excluded. Discuss how the proposed visit would strengthen your dissertation through supported research collaboration before building an application around it.

05 OsloMet Research Stays Abroad Scholarship 2027 deadline

The last date to apply for the OsloMet Research Stays Abroad Scholarship under the Faculty of Health Sciences’ January round is 31 January 2027, for stays starting between August and December 2027. This follows the faculty’s published annual deadline rule, rather than a separately dated 2027 announcement.

Start with the host conversation and supporting letters: those depend on other people, while your research plan and budget can develop alongside them.
