Your application begins with TFSU’s own assessment. When should you complete the CSC form, and does a doctoral applicant need a supervisor’s signature? The order matters here: this guide explains the degree and language requirements, preparation and university-first scholarship process.

01Which TFSU postgraduate programmes should you explore?

TFSU’s scholarship supports master’s and doctoral students, with eligible majors and durations assigned in Attachment 1 of the official scholarship call. That attachment is the scholarship-specific list; the general admissions catalogues help you explore academic fit but do not establish funding eligibility by themselves.

The 2027 master’s catalogue includes Chinese-language education, literature and linguistics, translation and interpreting, international business, diplomacy, politics, communication and educational technology. English-taught options include International Business, English Language Literature and Discipline Teaching (English).

The doctoral catalogue lists Foreign Language and Literature, with research on translating important Party and state documents for foreign audiences in English, Japanese or Russian. I would shortlist by research fit, then confirm that exact major against the scholarship attachment before committing to it.

02Who qualifies for TFSU’s CSC Scholarship?

You need the preceding degree, the language evidence for your teaching route and a strong academic application. Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens, in good physical and mental health, with good conduct and willingness to follow Chinese laws and university rules.

Requirement Master’s applicants Doctoral applicants
Qualification and age Bachelor’s degree; under 35. Master’s degree; under 40.
Chinese-taught route HSK 5, at least 180. HSK 6, at least 180.
Monthly stipend CNY 3,000. CNY 3,500.

For English-taught programmes, the scholarship call accepts IELTS 6.0, TOEFL 80, Duolingo 110 or English-proficiency evidence recognized by the relevant school. This does not create an English-taught option for a programme listed only in Chinese.

A Chinese-taught degree from a Chinese university can exempt you from submitting HSK, provided the graduating institution supplies proof. Former Chinese citizens must also satisfy the nationality conditions referenced in the call.

03What must you prepare for the TFSU scholarship?

Prepare a complete PDF application, including TFSU’s own study-plan template. Doctoral applicants must have their prospective Chinese supervisor sign the plan, so I recommend arranging that academic contact before your final submission.

  • Passport valid beyond 31 October 2028; notarized highest qualification or official pre-graduation/enrolment certificate; complete highest-degree transcripts, or current transcripts if still studying.
  • Language certificate; a Chinese- or English-language study plan of at least 1,000 words; two signed recommendations from professors or associate professors with contact details.
  • Foreigner Physical Examination Form with the required signatures, stamps and photograph; police clearance issued within six months before the CSC application. Medical results are valid for six months.
  • Academic publications and evidence of research or relevant activities as applicable. Applicants already studying in China who have not graduated must also provide visa and current-institution performance evidence.

Our Chinese scholarship study-plan guide can help you organize your academic case, but submit it using TFSU’s required template and retain the doctoral supervisor signature where applicable. Upload original-document scans and notarized Chinese or English translations where needed. TFSU requires originals at registration. Its scholarship notice does not specify an application fee or confirm a waiver; the general admission guides list a CNY 500 registration charge, so do not assume every administrative cost is covered.

04How does TFSU’s university-first application work?

Apply to TFSU before completing the CSC nomination stage. Begin with the official 2027–2028 scholarship call and its attachments. Use the master’s catalogue or doctoral catalogue to explore programme fit, then match your choice against the scholarship-specific major list. The university must assess you and issue pre-admission before directing you to the CSC system.

  1. Register on the TFSU International Student Service Platform, enter your degree choice and upload the application documents before the scholarship cutoff.
  2. Attend the written assessment and/or interview arranged by the relevant school if you pass document review.
  3. After receiving TFSU’s Pre-admission Notice, complete the CSC online application using Type B and agency number 10068. Upload the required documents and follow TFSU’s instructions for this stage.
  4. TFSU recommends candidates to CSC. Final scholarship selection follows CSC expert review; successful applicants receive admission and visa-study documentation through the system.

05What could derail a TFSU scholarship application?

Do not use the later general-admission deadline for this scholarship. A PhD study plan without the prospective supervisor’s signature also misses an explicit requirement. Upload PDF documents through the portal: TFSU does not accept postal applications.

The call prohibits simultaneous scholarship funding and provides for cancellation and repayment if conflicting support is discovered. Use the university’s own admissions office for questions: [email protected].

06What should you know before accepting a TFSU offer?

Can a final-year student apply before receiving the diploma?

Yes. Submit the official pre-graduation or enrolment certificate and current transcripts; final qualification evidence must follow as required for verification and enrolment.

Does pre-admission guarantee CSC funding?

No. Pre-admission lets you proceed to the CSC stage, while the scholarship still depends on recommendation and CSC review.

What happens if CSC does not select me?

The call says unsuccessful CSC candidates may receive priority for other TFSU scholarships or self-funded programmes if they wish to apply. Any alternative has its own funding terms; another full scholarship is not guaranteed.

07When must you apply for TFSU’s CSC Scholarship?

The last date to apply through Tianjin Foreign Studies University’s portal for the 2027–2028 Chinese Government Scholarship–High-Level Postgraduate Program is 21 February 2027. The CSC application follows university assessment and pre-admission; the call does not give a separate fixed CSC-stage deadline.

Shortlist your exact major, secure the recommendations and prepare the TFSU study-plan template. If you are applying for a doctorate, make the supervisor’s signature your earliest planning priority. If you are comparing alternatives, our 2027 CSC scholarship deadline guide helps you organize other university applications around their separate cutoffs.
