Canada Graduate Master Scholarships Spring 2025

Administered jointly by Canada’s three granting agencies—NSERC, CIHR, and SSHRC—this scholarship supports up to 3,000 students annually across all disciplines.

Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for the CGS M program, applicants must:
- Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or a Protected Person under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act.
- Be enrolled in or applying to a full-time eligible master’s or doctoral program at a Canadian institution.
- Have completed between 0 to 12 months of full-time study (or equivalent) in the eligible program.
- Achieve a first-class average (as determined by the host institution) in each of the last two completed years of study.
- Submit only one scholarship application per academic year to NSERC, CIHR, or SSHRC.
Application Process
To apply for the CGS M program:
- Research Portal: Applications are submitted through the Research Portal, which opens in early September. Applicants can apply to up to three institutions.
- Canadian Common CV: Complete and submit your CV using the Canadian Common CV website.
- Required Documents: Ensure you follow each institution’s specific instructions for completing your application and meeting internal deadlines.

The scholarship application is reviewed at the institutional level, and each institution must adhere to agency-specific allocations.
Selection Criteria
- Academic Excellence (50%): Evaluated based on academic records, awards, and distinctions.
- Research Potential (30%): Judged by research history, originality of contributions, and proposed research’s potential impact.
- Personal Characteristics (20%): Includes leadership skills, volunteerism, and project management experience.
