The Hochschule für Technik und Wirtschaft (HTW) Berlin has officially opened applications for the DAAD-funded MIDE Scholarships 2026, welcoming highly motivated international students to apply for its acclaimed Master’s in International and Development Economics (MIDE) program beginning April 2026.
This call is especially aimed at professionals from developing and transitioning countries who are eager to deepen their expertise in development economics and pursue their graduate education in Germany on a fully funded scholarship.
What’s in the Funding Package?
Selected applicants will receive the prestigious DAAD EPOS Scholarship, which provides:
- A monthly stipend of approx. €934 to cover living expenses in Germany.
- Full tuition fee waiver for the entire 18-month MIDE program.
- Health, accident, and personal liability insurance throughout the stay.
- Travel allowance (based on home country distance).
- Additional support such as monthly rent subsidy and family allowance, where applicable.
This generous scholarship ensures that students can focus fully on their academic and professional development, without worrying about financial barriers.
Who Can Apply for the DAAD MIDE Scholarship?
Wondering if you’re eligible? Ask yourself:
- Did you complete a Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) with at least 180 ECTS credits?
- Have you studied economics-related subjects—at least 3 modules or 15 ECTS?
- Do you have a minimum of two years of relevant professional experience after graduation?
- Is your English proficiency strong enough to handle graduate-level coursework? (You’re exempt from tests if your prior degree was taught in English.)
- Are you a citizen of a developing or transition country as listed by DAAD?
If you answered “yes” to these, you’re on the right track!
Application Timeline – DAAD and Non-Scholarship Tracks
Applicants seeking a DAAD EPOS Scholarship must submit their complete applications no later than 31 August 2025. Those not applying for the scholarship can still apply to the MIDE program until 30 September 2025.
All applications are handled directly through HTW Berlin’s MIDE portal—no Uni-Assist or application fee involved. The online form will be active from July to September 2025.
What Documents Are Required for application Submission?
Applicants must prepare and upload a complete set of electronic documents as part of the online application to the MIDE program. This includes a Motivation Letter (maximum two pages, signed and dated) that outlines your academic interests and career goals, and a Curriculum Vitae (CV) formatted in Europass style, also signed and dated.
You’ll need to include your degree certificate and transcripts, along with official English or German translations if the originals are in another language. An explanation of your university’s grading system—often found on your transcript or diploma supplement—is required to help evaluators understand your academic performance. Additionally, you must submit proof of English proficiency, unless your previous degree was fully taught in English, and a copy of your passport.
If you are applying for the DAAD scholarship, you must also attach all DAAD-specific documents as listed in the DAAD checklist. Importantly, certified hardcopies of your academic documents are not required during the initial application phase—they will only be requested if you are admitted and choose to enroll in the program.
