J. William Kohl Summer Scholarship 2025 at University of California Davis
The Department of Ophthalmology & Vision Science at the University of California, Davis is now accepting applications for the 2025 J. William Kohl, M.D. Summer Scholarship, a competitive and highly regarded opportunity designed specifically for U.S. medical students passionate about ophthalmology and vision science research.
Benefits of the Scholarship
Recipients of the Kohl Summer Scholarship will receive:
- A $2,500 stipend to support at least eight weeks of mentored summer research in the vision sciences.
- An additional $1,200 travel grant to help cover costs associated with presenting their research at a national ophthalmology conference.
- A chance to present at the Kohl Scholars Research Symposium at the UC Davis Eye Center in Fall 2025. Non-UC Davis students may participate virtually.
Eligibility Criteria
To be considered for this opportunity, applicants must:
- Be currently enrolled in an accredited U.S. medical school.
- Have a strong interest in pursuing a career in ophthalmology.
- Not be receiving any other research funding during the UC Davis summer quarter if already engaged in ongoing research with a UC Davis faculty member.
- Not have previously received the Kohl Summer Research Scholarship.
Note for Non-UC Davis Students: Those from outside UC Davis are welcome to apply. However, they are responsible for coordinating fund transfers with UC Davis staff, arranging their own housing, and managing transportation for the summer.
Program Details
- Scholars will engage in hands-on mentored research with faculty members at the UC Davis Eye Center.
- Selected students will deepen their understanding of ophthalmology, contribute to impactful research, and gain invaluable experience that can shape their future careers.
- In Fall 2025, all selected scholars will showcase their findings at a dedicated symposium.
