The Dutch Immigration and Naturalisation Service (IND) has just updated its Working Holiday Residence Permit Program (WHP/WHS), and applications are now being accepted for 2025! This exciting cultural exchange initiative gives young adventurers from selected countries the chance to live, work, and experience everyday life in the Netherlands for up to one year.
Who Can Apply for the Dutch Working Holiday Permit in 2025?
You can apply if you hold a valid passport from one of the following countries/territories:

- New Zealand
- Taiwan
- Uruguay
- South Korea
⚠️ Note: If you do not hold citizenship from one of the countries listed above, you are not eligible for this program.
Main Purpose of the Program
The Dutch Working Holiday scheme is more than just a job visa. It’s a cultural exchange program, where the emphasis is on:
- Exploring Dutch society and traditions
- Living like a local in cities such as Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Utrecht, and beyond
- Taking on part-time or short-term work to fund your travels
Limited Slots: Apply ASAP!
This program has country-specific participant caps, so don’t wait if you’re eligible:
- Argentina, Uruguay, Hong Kong, Taiwan: 100 spots per year
- Japan, South Korea: 200 spots per year
- Australia, Canada, New Zealand: No specified quota (as of current update)
First come, first served — once the cap is filled for your country, no more permits will be issued for 2025!
What Are the Basic Requirements?
To apply for the Dutch Working Holiday Residence Permit in 2025, you must meet several basic eligibility criteria. First, you must be between 18 and 30 years old at the time of application. You need to hold a valid passport from one of the eligible countries listed under the WHP/WHS program.
Importantly, you must not have previously participated in a Dutch Working Holiday Program, as this permit is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Applicants are also expected to demonstrate they have sufficient financial means to support themselves during their stay.
Additionally, this residence permit is intended solely for individual cultural exchange, so you cannot bring any family members or dependents with you under this visa.
What Do You Get With This Permit?
- Valid residence permit for up to 1 year
- Legal right to work and travel in the Netherlands
- Opportunity to study short courses during your stay
- Chance to explore Europe via the Schengen Area.
