Charles University Social Sciences Scholarships 2027 for Developing Countries
The Czech Government Scholarship 2027–2028 is now accepting applications from eligible developing-country nationals for the English-taught Master in Economics and Finance (MEF) at Charles University. The scholarship covers tuition, provides monthly financial support and includes access to covered health services.
Who Can Apply for the Czech Government Scholarship?
This opportunity is restricted to nationals of the countries selected for the 2027–2028 development-scholarship round. Eligible countries are Bangladesh, Belarus (democratic opposition), Bosnia and Herzegovina, Cambodia, Ethiopia, Gabon, Georgia, Guatemala, Honduras, Mauritania, Palestine, Ukraine and Zambia.
Applicants need a completed bachelor’s degree qualifying them for admission to a follow-up master’s programme. Czech citizens, EU citizens and foreign nationals holding permanent residence in Czechia are ineligible.
What Does This Charles University Scholarship Cover?
The scholarship covers full tuition for the two-year Master in Economics and Finance at Charles University. Master’s scholarship holders currently receive CZK 16,000 monthly to help pay for accommodation, food, local transport and other living costs. Covered health services are also provided.
International travel is not funded. Students should additionally prepare approximately CZK 5,000–8,000 for initial expenses after arriving in Czechia.
Is IELTS Required for Admission to Charles University on Scholarship?
IELTS is not the only accepted option, but applicants must prove that they possess sufficient English proficiency. Charles University accepts:
- IELTS Academic: 6.5 overall, with at least 6.0 in every component.
- TOEFL iBT or Home Edition: 83 overall, including Reading 19, Writing 24, Listening 20 and Speaking 20.
- Cambridge FCE: Cambridge English Scale score of 180.
- Cambridge CAE or CPE: A successfully awarded certificate.
The university may waive standardized testing for native speakers or applicants who studied in English at secondary school for two years, studied in English at university for one year, or worked in an English-speaking organization for one year. Official evidence is required.
This waiver does not remove the government scholarship test. Every applicant selecting an English-taught programme must still complete the mandatory online English test within the scholarship portal.
How Can You Apply?
- Read the official Czech Government Scholarship Guidelines.
- Register on the Study in Czechia portal.
- Select the Master in Economics and Finance at Charles University.
- Complete the form, motivation letter, aptitude test and English test.
- Upload the required documents and submit the application.
- If shortlisted, attend the Czech embassy interview and follow its document instructions.
- Complete the separate Charles University admission process when instructed and pay the 940 CZK admission fee. The university confirms that this fee has no waiver, including for scholarship applicants.
