The European Academy of Neurology (EAN) has officially opened applications for the prestigious EAN Research Training and Experience Fellowships for 2026, offering international students the unique chance to gain hands-on experience in neuroscience research across top neurological departments in Europe.


What Is the EAN Fellowship All About?

The EAN Research Fellowship is a highly regarded program aimed at supporting neurologists in any area of basic, clinical, or applied neuroscience research. The key requirement? Your research must take place outside your country of residence—opening a gateway to international collaboration and knowledge exchange.

This fellowship is perfect for neurologists and neuroscientists who want to:

  • Pursue a higher research degree
  • Publish peer-reviewed work
  • Gain cutting-edge research skills not accessible in their home institutions.

Two Distinct Fellowship Types

1# Research Training Fellowship

    • Duration: 6 to 12 months
    • Objective: Lead to a higher degree, research grant proposal, or peer-reviewed publication
    • Target: Early-stage researchers with a strong academic goal.

2# Research Experience Fellowship

    • Duration: 3 to 6 months
    • Objective: Gain high-quality, targeted research experience
    • Target: Clinicians and experienced researchers needing access to specialized techniques not available in their home country.

What’s in the Award Package?

Both types of fellowships come with attractive funding:

  • Monthly Stipend: €2,000
  • Travel Support: Up to €500
  • Flexibility: Fellowship may start retroactively from 1 September 2025, depending on application timing.

Who Can Apply?

To be eligible, you must:

  • Be a European neurologist conducting research at a neurological department outside your country of residence
  • Hold an active EAN RRFS or Full Membership
  • Demonstrate clear value and impact of the training or experience on your home department or future career.

The last date to apply for the EAN Research Fellowship 2026 is 31 August 2025 whereas result notifications will be sent out by the end of November 2025.
