What Does the Honjo Scholarship Cover?

The Honjo International Scholarship is quite generous, offering varying amounts depending on the length of your graduate program:

  • 1-2 Years: ¥230,000 per month (around EUR 1,450).
  • 3 Years: ¥210,000 per month (around EUR 1,325).
  • 4-5 Years: ¥180,000 per month (around EUR 1,135).

These amounts are designed to cover your living expenses while studying in Japan. Additionally, recipients may also receive a travel grant to attend international conferences, further enhancing their academic experience.

Who Can Apply?

To be eligible for the Honjo International Scholarship, you must meet the following criteria:

  • Non-Japanese Citizenship: Only students without Japanese citizenship can apply.
  • Graduate Enrollment: You must be enrolled or planning to enroll in a graduate school in Japan by April 2025. This applies to both current students and those who are applying to start their studies.
  • Age Limit: For PhD applicants, you must start your program by the age of 35 and for Master’s applicants, the age limit is 30.
  • Commitment to Home Country: Applicants should have a strong intention to contribute to their home country after completing their studies.
