The International Liaison Office of the Graduate School of Frontier Sciences (GSFS) at the University of Tokyo is pleased to announce the JEES Scholarship for the Promotion of Japanese Language Learning. This prestigious scholarship supports students who aspire to become Japanese language instructors, providing financial assistance to help them achieve their goals.

The JEES Scholarship offers a monthly stipend of 50,000 yen to support students from April 2024 to March 2025. This financial aid will allow recipients to focus on their studies and professional development without the burden of financial constraints

Eligibility Requirements

To be eligible for the JEES Scholarship, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Enrollment Status: Must be a regular student in a master’s or doctoral course at GSFS, University of Tokyo, as of April 2024, and aspiring to become a Japanese language instructor. International students must hold a “College Student” residential status.
  • Examination Requirement: Must have passed the Japanese Language Teaching Competency Test held by the JEES in the academic year 2023.
  • Scholarship Period: Must be able to receive the scholarship from April 2024 to March 2025.
  • Funding Restrictions: Must not receive other scholarships offered by the foundation or scholarships from other foundations totaling more than 600,000 yen during the scholarship period. Loan-type scholarships and tuition exemptions are excluded.
  • Recommendation: Must be able to obtain a recommendation from their supervisor.

As only one applicant from GSFS can be recommended for this scholarship, it is crucial to ensure all application materials are complete and submitted on time.
