Full Scholarship Benefits

Eligibility Criteria
Study Programme Requirements: Applicable for all Master’s programs at Leiden University, except for:

- Programs starting in February in certain faculties.
Nationality Requirements:
- Open to non-EEA/non-EFTA passport holders.
- Exceptions: No nationality restrictions for specific advanced LLMs and MSc in International Relations and Diplomacy.
- UK students post-Brexit are eligible, with certain conditions.
Academic Requirements: Candidates must be among the top 10% of graduates in their previous studies and the previous study program must be relevant to the Master’s program applied for.
Application Process
- Apply online for a Master’s program at Leiden University and pay the application fee if applicable.
- Indicate your intention to apply for LExS in the scholarship section of the application.
- Upload a motivation letter (max. 500 words) explaining why you deserve the award.
- Submit your application before the LExS deadline. Separate applications and motivation letters are required for each program applied.
Application Deadlines
The last date to apply for the Leiden University Excellence Scholarship (LExS) is 1 February 2024 for programs starting 1 September and 1 October 2024 for programs starting 1 February.
Selection Process:
- The faculty selection committees nominate recipients within 6 weeks of the deadline.
