Successful scholars will join the one-year MSc Programme in Water and Sustainable Development and follow the Water Resources and Ecosystem Health track. The programme encourages participants to develop interdisciplinary expertise that bridges environmental science, technology, and sustainable development planning.

Particular emphasis is placed on candidates who demonstrate an interest in using innovation and technical tools to solve environmental problems while protecting ecosystems and natural resources.

Funding Support Available

The Swarovski Foundation will provide three full scholarships for selected candidates entering the November 2026 intake.

The scholarship is intended to remove major financial barriers for talented women from developing countries and enable them to undertake advanced studies in the Netherlands. As these awards are offered on a highly competitive basis and only three scholarships are available globally, applicants should expect a rigorous selection process focused on academic potential, professional impact, and alignment with the programme’s objectives.

Candidates with Technical and Biodiversity Expertise Have an Advantage

One of the distinctive features of this scholarship is its strong preference for applicants who can integrate environmental knowledge with technical competencies.

Candidates working or researching in areas such as biodiversity conservation, wetland management, aquatic ecosystems, river basin ecology, ecosystem restoration, climate adaptation, and nature-based solutions are particularly encouraged to apply.

The selection committee will also look favorably on applicants with skills or experience in:

  • Geographic Information Systems (GIS)
  • Remote sensing technologies
  • Artificial Intelligence applications
  • Environmental modelling
  • Data analysis and planning tools

Applicants who can demonstrate how these technical capabilities support sustainable water and biodiversity management are likely to be highly competitive.

Who Is Eligible to Apply?

The scholarship is open exclusively to female applicants who are citizens of low-income, lower-middle-income, or upper-middle-income countries and who are currently living and working in one of those countries.

Candidates must also demonstrate a commitment to returning to a qualifying country after completing their studies so that the knowledge and skills gained through the programme can contribute to local and regional development.

To be considered, applicants must first secure unconditional academic admission to the regular one-year MSc Programme in Water and Sustainable Development at IHE Delft. They must select the Water Resources and Ecosystem Health track and indicate either the Environment profile or the Digital Innovation and Hydroinformatics profile during their academic application.

Applicants holding only conditional admission will not be eligible. Similarly, candidates already funded through another scholarship programme cannot be considered for this award.
