ESA confirms that its Student Internship Programme opportunities are normally published in November 2026 and remain available for approximately one month. This means September and October 2026 are the ideal months for eligible students to prepare their CV, motivation letter, academic information and internship preferences before the expected 2027 call opens.

The internships last between 3 and 6 months and can begin from February 2027 onward. Opportunities span engineering, software, space science, Earth observation, mathematics, law, finance, communications, HR and other technical and non-technical fields.

What Should You Prepare Before ESA Internships Open?

Prepare Now Why It Matters?
Updated CV Required when creating your ESA candidate profile
Motivation Letter Should explain your interests, motivation and fit with ESA
Academic Background Use your modules, projects and technical skills to identify suitable vacancies
Citizenship Check Eligibility depends on nationality, not simply where you study
Internship Preferences ESA allows a maximum of two applications per person
Availability Internships normally last 3–6 months and may begin from February onward

Why Preparing Before November Matters?

ESA is not a programme where students should send the same generic application to every vacancy.

Once the call opens, applicants can submit applications to a maximum of two internship vacancies. ESA warns that candidates applying to more vacancies than permitted may have all of their applications disregarded.

That makes October preparation particularly valuable: shortlist your strongest fields now, update relevant university projects on your CV and prepare a core motivation letter that can later be customized for the specific ESA position.

ESA also recommends keeping the motivation letter clear and concise while explaining your motivation, interests and enthusiasm.

Applicant takeaway: Do not wait for the ESA internship advertisements to appear before preparing your documents. The call is expected in November, but the strongest applicants can enter that month with their CV already updated, motivation letter drafted and two target areas already identified.
