The Institute of Advanced Studies (IAS) at University College London (UCL), in collaboration with the School for the Creative and Cultural Industries (SCCI), has announced the opening of applications for the UCL Creative Fellowships 2025: Encounters—Knowledge Futures in the Age of AI. Four Quirk Creative Fellows will have the opportunity to explore the intersection of creative practice and academic research during this innovative fellowship program.
Fellowship Overview
Since its inception in 2019, the Encounters Fellowship Programme has offered creative practitioners a platform to partner with UCL academics, fostering collaboration and innovation. This year’s theme, Knowledge Futures in the Age of AI, invites applicants to delve into the dynamic interplay between creative practices and emerging AI technologies.
Fellowship Benefits
- Grant Amount: £5,000 per Fellowship.
- Duration: March 2025 to July 31, 2025.
- Networking Opportunities: Engage with UCL’s research centers, networks, and creative industries.
- Event Hosting: Plan and deliver at least two public-facing or internal events, such as workshops, seminars, or performances.
- Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Work alongside UCL academics and students, contributing to the exploration of the creative humanities.
Focus Areas
- Performance, Creative Writing, Visual Arts, or Media: Fellows are encouraged to use their creative practice to respond to one or more key questions on the role of creativity in research and knowledge creation.
- Music Futures: One fellowship will specifically focus on music as a research method, supported by the IAS and European Institute.
- Art Futures: Another fellowship will focus on developing partnerships and research opportunities within the creative industries.
- Open Fellowships: The remaining two fellowships are open to collaborations with other UCL research centers or networks, including ARIEL.
Eligibility Criteria
- Creative Practitioners: Open to artists, writers, performers, or professionals in visual arts and media.
- Interest in Academia: Applicants should demonstrate a desire to collaborate with academics and students to explore creative humanities.
- Inclusive Opportunity: No prior university experience is required; support will be provided to help Fellows navigate UCL’s academic environment.
